The Things We Hide From Ourselves — Daily Dose 6: Fear. What if I Try... and Fail?

That’s the question you don’t say out loud.

But it’s the one that’s been making your decisions for a long time.

Not logic.

Not timing.

Not circumstances.

Fear.

It’s not loud.

It’s not obvious.

It’s quiet…

using reasonable,

convincing lies.

It doesn’t say, “don’t go.”

It says, "wait for a better time.”

“make sure you’re ready.”

“what if it doesn’t work?”

And you listen.

Because it sounds like protection.

But it’s not protecting you.

It’s keeping you held back,

in the comfort

of not feeling embarrassed,

not feeling exposed,

not feeling like you are wrong,

not feeling like you’re not enough.

So instead of risking that…

you stay where you are.

Because it’s comfortable.

Even when you know it’s not right.

Even when it’s slowly draining you.

Even when something inside of you

is screaming for you to move.

That’s how fear works.

It doesn’t trap you with force.

It traps you with doubt.

With hesitation.

With your own indecision.

And the cost of that?

You don’t just avoid failure…

you avoid yourself.

The version of you

that would have grown,

learned,

become something more than who you are in this space right now.

So you sit in the question:

What if I try… and fail?

But that’s not the question you should be asking.

What if I try…and succeed?

And if you don’t ask that question—

what happens?

Nothing.

What if you don’t try…and this is where you stay?

Slowly becoming someone

who never did try.

Didn't reach who they are meant to be?

Don’t let fear make that decision for you.

Sit with this.

Because fear will always give you a reason to stay where you are…

but it will never tell you what it’s costing you to remain there.

You cannot heal what you refuse to face,

but facing it does not mean shame…

it means freedom.
