The Things We Hide From Ourselves — Daily Dose 4: Denial: The avoidance of our truth.

We don’t avoid the truth because we don’t see it.

We avoid it because we do.

Because the moment we allow ourselves to fully see it—

we can’t not see it.

We can’t go back to pretending it doesn’t matter.

We can’t keep choosing the same things without knowing what they’re costing us.

So we soften it.

We call it confusion.

We call it timing.

We call it “I’m just tired” or “I need to think.”

But underneath all of that…

there is a truth we have already met.

And it’s been waiting.

Waiting for us to stop negotiating with it.

Waiting for us to stop asking it

to be quieter, smaller, easier.

Because truth doesn’t force.

It doesn’t chase.

It doesn’t beg to be acknowledged.

It simply stays.

And the longer we avoid it…

the heavier everything begins to feel.

Not because life is against us—

but because we are living out of alignment with what we already know.

That tension you feel?

That quiet unrest you can’t explain?

That’s not anxiety.

That’s awareness… being ignored.

And it doesn’t go away.

It shows up in your exhaustion.

In your frustration.

In the moments you sit still and feel something isn’t right…

but you don’t let yourself stay there long enough to name it.

Denial isn’t the absence of truth.

It’s the quiet decision to keep looking away from it.

And the cost of that decision…

is time.

peace.

and parts of yourself you slowly disconnect from.

But here’s the shift—

The moment you turn toward it,

even slightly…

even without having the answer…

even without knowing what to do next…

something changes.

Because truth was never there to hurt you.

It was there to bring you back to yourself

You cannot heal what you refuse to face,

but facing it does not mean shame…

it means freedom.
