Exhaustion — Daily Dose 3: When You Can't Shut Your Mind Off

Why is it… that even when your body sits still… your mind keeps moving?
You lay down. You close your eyes. You tell yourself to rest.
But your thoughts don't stop.
They circle. Planning. Replaying conversations. Thinking about what still needs to be done. What you forgot. What might go wrong.
What someone else might need from you tomorrow.
Even in silence… your mind stays busy.
Because exhaustion doesn't just live in the body.
It lives in the mind that never gets a break.
A mind trained to stay alert. To stay prepared. To stay ready — just in case.
Just in case something happens. Just in case someone needs you.
Just in case things fall apart. So you think. And think. And think some more.
Not because you want to. But because your mind learned...
Staying alert meant staying safe.
That staying prepared meant staying in control.
And somewhere along the way…
Rest became unfamiliar. Quiet became uncomfortable.
Not peaceful. Just loud in a different way.

But hear this clearly:
A racing mind is not weakness. It is survival that never got turned off.
It is the mind of someone who has carried responsibility for too long.
Who has learned to stay ready…even when there is nothing left to do.
Today's step is simple:
Tonight…when your mind starts racing…
Don't fight it. Don't judge it. Just notice it.
Notice the thoughts. Notice the tension. Notice how tired you really are.
And then take one slow breath. Not to fix anything.
Just to remind your body that this moment…is safe.
Because rest doesn't begin when the thoughts disappear.
It begins when you stop fighting yourself.
And tonight... rest is waiting.
So tonight…when your mind keeps moving…
Come here…sit with me awhile…
